4.5 hour drive to Columbus, Ohio for a meeting with the Pediatric neuro oncologist at Nationwide Children's Hospital. The Team leader is Dr. Fouladi, MD, MSc, FRCP a specialist on Ben's tumor and has been working on a clinical trial drug to help assist the radiation with its work on eliminating the tumor on a molecular level.
When we left the Memorial hospital we where told that the tumor was inoperable and the radiation they provide at their facility can only slow down the growth. After meeting Dr. Fouladi and her team they looked over the findings and started to do some research of their own. With a day of examining Ben's health and a contrast MRI they concluded that the Pediatric neurosurgeon can operate on Ben and remove more of the tumor putting him in a way better position to receive the oral clinical medication. We now have 3 ways to attack this tumor and a lot of hope.
Ben will come home to rest and return to Columbus, Ohio Wednesday to have his heart checked, Thursday Ben will receive his first oral dose of the medication, Sunday he will revive a second dose and Monday morning he will go in for his second brain surgery.
